Please join us on Saturday, June 18 from 10-2pm. Commemorating National Freedom Day in our hometown of West Bloomfield, MI. A free, fun, family-friendly event. Juneteenth honors the day the final enslaved people were emancipated in June 1865 and celebrates the countless contributions of African Americans to our community & nation. A light lunch will be provided for this outdoor event.  We expect our returning and new prospective PDs to attend along with most of our regular club members.  This will be a great opportunity for you to introduce yourself and mingle in person with committed Democrats.

• Mark Brewer will discuss the status of the redistricting lawsuits, the legality of some of the GOP ballot initiatives, the possible legal landscape of abortion without Roe, and more.
• Congressman Andy Levin - currently representing MI Congressional District 9 and running in the new District 11, which includes the West Bloomfield area

WBLDems strives to give equal time to all candidates in contested Democratic primaries and per MDP guidelines, will not endorse candidates in contested Democratic primaries.

Our panelists will share their experiences as Black Americans. We will hear the truth and talk about conceptions / misconceptions, concerns, and hopes about race in our community and nation. Our conversation will be a start to understanding and healing, but not the end. Virtual History of the Tuskegee Airmen

February 16, 7-8:30 pm via Zoom (must pre-register to receive link)

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first black military aviators in the US Army Air Corps (AAC), a precursor of the US Air Force, flying with distinction during WWII. Hear from Major William H. Burnett, President of the Macon-Thomas West Bloomfield Chapter President of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

LOVE YOURSELF: Wellness While Black

Saturday, February 12, 9 - 11:30 am at Connect at Orchard Mall

Make a date with yourself! Come celebrate both Black History and Heart Health month with an interactive event that will fuel your heart, mind and soul. This information-packed morning will include a doctor’s roundtable discussion on heart disease, hypertension and nutrition. Then stay for free trials of yoga, Zumba, dancing lesson (hustle) and sample healthy treats such as smoothies. You will leave with inspiration to live healthier and happier. Ages 16+.

Black History 101 Museum

Saturday, February 5 from 12-3 pm at West Bloomfield Township Public Library

Founded by Dr. Khalid el-Hakim, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum is an award winning collection of original artifacts of Black memorabilia dating from the trans-Atlantic slave trade era and spanning to current hip-hop culture. All ages welcome.
