This month, Summer is heating up just like the August primary election!

Meet candidates for Oakland County:

  • Vincent Gregory for Sheriff, former State Senator and Former Detective with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department
  • Barnett Jones for Sheriff, a retired Captain of the Oakland County Sheriffs Office
  • Robert Wittenberg for County Treasurer, State Rep in HD 27
  • Robert Corbett for County Treasurer, Madison Heights City Councilman
  • William Gage for County Commissioner in the 12th District

We'll also hear from Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden running for her second term as State Rep in HD 35 and her challenger Shadia Martini.

In education, we'll hear from candidate for MSU trustee Dr. Rema Vassar, and Bloomfield School Board Trustee Howard Baron will give us updates on the Bond proposal.

The BB Dem Club is going online! Join us for our April meeting via Zoom Video Conferencing. 

We will hear from Elizabeth Welch, Democratic Candidate for Michigan's State Supreme Court. Ms. Welch is a West MI lawyer with 20 years of experience. Welch is an advocate for equity in education and protection of our natural resources. She has served for seven years on the East Grand Rapids Board of Education.

Dave Coulter, Oakland County Executive and Democratic Candidate for the same office, will be with us to talk about Oakland County's response to COVID-19 as well as his vision for the County in 2020.

Our Precinct Delegate liaison Debbie Rosenman will talk about the opportunity to become a Democratic Precinct Delegate.  A Precinct Delegate is someone who connects with other strong Democrats in their precinct to inform them about voting in the November election. It is easy and can be done from the comfort of your home. What a great way to have a sense of satisfaction that you are doing your part to get out the vote.

Finally, we'll hear from our own Chairman Charles Gaba who will be briefly explaining the healthcare coverage options for people who've lost employer-based coverage and how it ties in with the expanded unemployment benefits.

Join us for our February meeting as we welcome two of the candidates running for Oakland County Circuit Court Judge.

Lorie Savin is an award winning referee with more than twenty years of experience in family law. Her expertise has been widely praised during her thirteen years of service to the Court and the families of Oakland County.

Clarence Dass is an award winning defense attorney specializing in criminal, family, juvenile and municipal law, and leads The Dass Law Firm. He previously served as assistant prosecuting attorney for the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office from 2012 to 2016 serving in the elite special victims section.

We will also hear an update from Debbie Rosenman on updates to building the Precinct Delegate program and recruitment.

Please note, this meeting is at the Bloomfield Township Hall, where we will host all meetings going forward, NOT the Township Library.

Please join the BB Dems on Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at our new primary meeting location, the Bloomfield Township Hall, located at 4200 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township as we hold our annual Executive Board election.

Note that while the January meeting will be held on a Thursday, after that our normal monthly meetings will move to the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Township hall, although this may vary for specific meetings.

In order to vote on the executive board positions, you do have to have paid your 2020 BB Dems dues before or at the meeting.

All of our local elected officials have been invited. Confirmed to be in attendance will be Congressman Andy Levin, Congressman Haley Stevens (attendance subject to change pending Impeachment proceedings), State Representative Mari Manoogian, and State Senator Rosemary Bayer. We will update here as RSVPs roll in.

Join us as Dr. Anil Kumar, Democrat on the Wayne State University Board of Governors, joins us with updates on the goings-on of public higher education.

We'll also have Mike Whitty, retired professor and a delegate to the 2016 Dem convention in Philadelphia, who will lead a discussion on Winning in 2020 With Unity and Great Turnout.

Finally, Debbie Rosenman will discuss our plan of action with the Democratic Precinct Delegates of Oakland County.

The meeting will be held on the second floor of library. Use stairs behind and to the left of circulation desk or use the elevator. Parking is free for two hours at any of the Birmingham parking structures. After two hours the fee is $2. Use the structure on Chester Street at Maple (closest to library) or Pierce (second closest).

We will hear from Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper. In 2008, Cooper was the first woman elected to the seat of Oakland County Prosecutor. Prior to becoming prosecutor, she spent eight years as a District Court Judge, fourteen years as a Circuit Court Judge, and 6-1/2 years as a Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals. Prosecutor Cooper will give us an update from the Prosecutors Office, and discuss her achievements and vision for that role. 

We'll also have Nicole Bedi giving us an update on the Birmingham Schools Replace/Restore/Renewal Millage vote this November 5th.
