Dear Friend,

For years Black Americans have been at the forefront of the progressive movements and politics. However, our work and political choices haven't translated into Black liberation. We want to discuss why.

Join Michigan United's African American Leadership Council on February 24, 2021, on Zoom 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m for our Black Liberation within the Progressive Democratic Agenda; is it possible to achieve Town Hall.

Click here to attend the Black Liberation within the Progressive Democratic Agenda Town Hall.

At the Town Hall, we're bringing together community leaders and activists to discuss how we can achieve Black liberation within the progressive moment.

We look forward to seeing you at this important event. Don't forget to share the Town Hall link with your networks.

Yours in solidarity, The African American Leadership Council

Oakland County Commissioners Democratic Caucus Fundraiser: An Evening with Dana and Dave!

Purchase tickets HERE

You did it - you turned Oakland County blue for the first time in a generation!

While we take time to celebrate this milestone, we don't have time to lose. We need to get to work now to keep and expand the new Democratic majority on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.

To kickstart this effort, join us for a virtual evening with our Attorney General Dana Nessel and our County Executive Dave Coulter. Together, we'll hear what they have to say about how we can fight to enact the Democratic agenda, and expand our victories across the state in this upcoming cycle.

An Evening with Dana & Dave will take place on Wednesday March 3rd at 7PM EST. A Zoom link will be graciously provided upon ticket purchase.

The work of Michigan's Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission

2021 will be the first year that a nonpartisan citizen commission will draw Michigan voting districts, rather than state legislators. The commission began meeting in fall 2020, and will use data from the decennial census and citizen input to determine district lines by November 2021. The commission includes four members affiliated with the Democratic Party, four with the Republican Party, and five not affiliated with a major political party.
Sue Smith has been active with the commission, and will talk about the history of the commission, the vote to establish it, the role that citizens still have, and establishing communities of interest. Anqunette Sarfoh serves as a commission monitor, and will talk about the role of monitors.
LWV Detroit and the Detroit Public Library are partnering in talks promoting voter education and tools for action.
Link will be sent to registrants before the program.
