Join the Greater Royal Oak Democratic Club and The Book Beat (https://www.thebookbeat.com/backroom/) for a VIRTUAL book talk with Abdul El-Sayed. Pre-order a SIGNED copy of either (or both) of El-Sayed's books and then join us on Zoom to hear more about the implementation of Medicare for All and a Q and A session with Dr. El-Sayed. Purchase not necessary for participation in this FREE Zoom event! Please Note: This event does require registration in advance to receive the link.

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is a physician, epidemiologist, educator, author, speaker, and podcast host. His books include Healing Politics: A Doctor’s Journey into the Heart of Our Political Epidemic (Abrams Press, 2020), a combination of memoir, science, and public policy, diagnosing the challenges facing America and laying out a way forward; and Medicare for All: A Citizen’s Guide (Oxford University Press, 2021), co-authored with Dr. Micah Johnson. Medicare for All is the leading proposal to achieve universal health coverage in America. But what is it exactly? How would it work? More importantly, is it practical or practicable? This book goes beyond partisan talking points to offer a serious examination of how Medicare for All would transform the way we give, receive, and pay for healthcare in America.

Michigan is so lucky to have a leader like the LG in this moment. It quickly became clear last year that COVID-19 was disproportionately infecting and killing people of color, so Gov. Whitmer asked the LG to chair a new Coronavirus Taskforce on Racial Disparities. Thanks in part to the Taskforce’s work, the number of deaths in the Black community came down dramatically over the course of 2020. Now the LG’s program of addressing underlying causes and conditions leading to those disparities is the model that the new Biden administration is using to address this issue across the nation.

Meanwhile, the LG has remained so accessible and helpful to my constituents during the pandemic, coming to multiple town halls to answer questions about state programs and protocols and taking part in a youth conference I put on for MLK Day.

If you can’t tell, I’m a massive fan of our LG and I’m always happy to talk to him about the issues facing our state and the bold solutions we can implement to fix them.

Tickets are $25 each (but you're welcome to donate more!) and you can form your own team or be assigned randomly at the time of the event. The challenge is to work as a team to come up with a campaign slogan and logo that expresses your feelings about Senator Bayer! No writing experience, communications degree, or artistic ability required. The goal is to have fun, work together, and celebrate this amazing State Senator.

It also aims to provide tools that we can all use as we interact with different facets of society. We strive to do better and create a better world.

A famous advocate notes that “we must raise anti-racist kids who will never be perpetrators of or bystanders to white supremacy and who will never mistake tolerance or appropriation for respect. Don't skip the painful parts--read every word.” (Chelsea Clinton)

Order the book now at The Lit Bar  (let’s support local businesses - it’s also available at other booksellers).

Note: We are launching this event during Black History Month. The exact date for the discussion with this best selling author is confirmed for MARCH 24 @ 7:30pm. Order the book now - read it - and plan to talk with the author on MARCH 24 @ 7:30pm.
