OCDP County Convention - Cancelled

Tuesday, Nov 27, 2018 - 01:11 pm

Dear Fellow Democrats,

It has become clear that the original Call to Convention that was supposed to be sent on November 13th was not properly mailed. Our goal as Democrats is always to open our party and welcome all who want to participate. Without proper notice, this is not possible.

As a result, I have consulted with the Michigan Democratic Party and received permission to reschedule our Convention so that everyone can receive proper two weeks notice. We must have our Convention before the end of the year, so please stay tuned for the new date and time.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and problems this has generated.

We had a very successful election year and many people gave their time and talents to make Oakland County the epicenter of Michigan’s Blue Wave. I hope we can build on this momentum going forward.

Sincerely,
Vicki Barnett, Chair

9th District Congressional District Convention

Saturday, Aug 11, 2018 - 05:08 am

The purpose of the convention will be to elect members and alternates to each of the three Michigan Democratic Party Convention committees: Rules, Resolutions, and Credentials, and to consider resolutions and platform planks to be forwarded to the state party for consideration.

Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until the Credential Report is accepted, thereby closing off additional registrations. Te ensure voting eligibility, Delegates should be in line to register no later than 10:00 a.m.

Article 3.2 of the MDP Rules stipulate the following qualifications for candidacy and eligibility to vote:

In order to vote at any Convention, Caucus or meeting of any unit of the MDP at any level, a person must be a member of the MDP for at least thirty (30) days prior to that Convention, Caucus or meeting. A Party member must be a qualified and registered elector in order to vote on nominations for public office.

Precinct delegates, Democratic elected officials and Democratic nominees to partisan offices are exempt from the thirty (30) day advance membership requirement. However, Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials and Democratic nominees to partisan offices must be a member of the MDP in order to vote at any Convention, Caucus or meeting of any unit of the MDP at any level. Former members of the MDP whose membership has lapsed in the thirty (30) days preceding any Convention, Caucus, or meeting of any unit of the MDP may renew their membership on the day of the Convention, Caucus, or meeting and shall be permitted to vote on that date.
