Oakland 8th District MDP Convention

The Oakland 8th District Convention will be held to elect (1) Female Delegate to the Credentials Committee; and (1) Male and (1) Female Alternate Delegate to the Resolutions Committee

Resolutions to the convention will be voted upon to determine if they will be forwarded to the MDP Resolutions Committee for review and approval.

Candidates for office are welcome to discuss their campaign(s)

To vote in this event, you must be a member of the Michigan Democratic Party as of February 15 5:00 pm

Agenda: The Committee shall meet to consider rules for the State Convention and to receive training in those rules and on proportional voting. A call in option will be provided to District Chairs for distribution to committee members.

Date: Wednesday, March 28, 2018 & Thursday, March 29, 2018  Time: 7:00 PM EST    Place: Hart-Kennedy House, 606 Townsend St, Lansing MI 48911 

Agenda: The Committee shall meet to consider resolutions proposed by County and District Conventions for the State Convention’s consideration. A call in option will be provided to District Chairs for distribution to committee members. 

Credentials 

 The Committee shall meet at the call of the Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party at the convention if necessary. 

Oakland 8th District Convention

Our meeting will be in the James Ingram Room in the Adult section of the library.
We will elect members to three MDP State Convention committees and receive/approve any resolutions to forward to the Resolutions Committee. In order to vote, you must be a member of the Michigan Democratic Party for 30 days prior to this convention, unless you were elected Precinct Delegate in August, 2016 - in that case you can join the MDP as late as the day of the convention.

Any new business, or good and welfare.

This convention is for the purposes of electing Members and Alternates of State Convention Committees, to debate and adopt resolutions for the state party’s consideration, and to consider any other business properly brought before the convention body.

Registration to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until the Credential Report is accepted, thereby closing off additional registrations.

To ensure voting eligibility, Delegates should be in line to register no later than 10:00 a.m.

Delegates to District Convention shall be the Precinct Delegates who were duly elected at the Primary Election held August 2, 2016, the nominees for County and Legislative office as set forth in Party Rules Article 5 C, and members of the Michigan Democratic Party whose membership was renewed at least thirty (30) days prior to the County/ District Convention or by July 14, 2016. Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials and Democratic candidates for public office may become members on August 13, 2016 when they register at the County and District Conventions.

The 9th District is entitled to two Members (one male and one female) and two Alternates (one male and one female) on each of the following committees: Credentials, Rules, and Platform & Resolutions. In order to be elected to a Convention Committee, a person must be member of the Michigan Democratic Party at least thirty (30) days prior to August 27, or by July 29, 2016.

For resolutions to be considered at this convention, they must be received at PO Box 66394, Roseville, MI 48066 no later than Thursday, August 11, 2016 or by email to 9thDistrictChair@gmail.com no later than 11:59 p.m. on the same date.

MDP State Convention

The Democratic Electors of the State of Michigan are hereby notified that, by direction of the Democratic State Central Committee, the Fall State Convention shall convene on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Lansing. In order to vote at the State Convention, a person other than a precinct delegate, Democratic elected official, or Democratic nominee to partisan office must be a member of the Michigan Democratic Party at least thirty (30) days prior to August 27, 2016 or by July 29, 2016. Hand-delivered membership applications must be delivered to Hart-Kennedy (606 Townsend St., Lansing MI 48933) by 5:00pm on July 29, 2016. Applications submitted online must be submitted by 11:59pm on July 29, 2016. Membership applications submitted by USPS must be postmarked no later than July 29, 2016. Membership applications may not be submitted by Fax. Persons whose memberships are current as of July 29, 2016 but which expire before August 27, 2016 are eligible to vote if they renew on or before August 27, 2016. Precinct delegates, Democratic elected officials, and Democratic nominees to partisan office must be members of the Michigan Democratic Party on August 27, 2016 and may become members that day when they register at State Convention.

Oakland 8th District Convention

The Oakland 8th District Convention will be held at the Orion Township Public Library, Meeting Room B, 825 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion, MI 48362 from 10:30 am until Noon

The purpose of the MDP Congressional District Conventions are to elect people to the following Michigan Democratic Party Convention Committees:  Rules, Credentials, and Platform.  Any Resolutions prepared in advance can be submitted and approved resolutions will be forwarded to the MDP.  New business, good and welfare and short November 8 candidate presentations are welcome.

Precinct Delegates and other Candidates elected on August 2 are voting members, which must become members of the Michigan Democratic Party on or before August 13.   All other voting participants must be members of the Michigan Democratic Party prior to July 15 2016.
