The “Time to Care” Campaign is Hiring Organizers and Petition-Gatherers for the Earned Paid Sick Time Ballot Initiative

INTERESTED IN AN OPPORTUNITY TO DELIVER A VICTORY FOR WORKING PEOPLE?

Our History: Non-profit, labor and political leaders came together in 2014 to form Raise Michigan – to engage Michiganders on issues of economic dignity and justice. Due to the efforts of countless volunteers, organizations, political leaders and other allies, Raise Michigan was able to collect 320,000+ signatures in 2014 to encourage our legislature and Governor to pass legislation that raised minimum wage to $9.25 per hour by 2018 (including the first raise for “tipped” employees in over 30 years) and also make sure the minimum wage keeps up with inflation thereafter.

Our Current Campaign: Raise Michigan launched the Time to Care campaign to increase access to “earned paid sick time” for the 1.5 million Michiganders who do not have paid sick time off work to care for loved ones or themselves.

Our Challenge: Just as Governor Snyder and the Michigan Legislature said raising the minimum wage wasn’t a priority in 2014, they have refused to even discuss earned paid sick time despite overwhelming public support for the issue. So the Time to Care campaign have launched a signature drive to collect the hundreds of thousands of signatures by May 31st, to give voters the opportunity this November to vote for everyone having access to earning paid sick time.

ARE YOU THE PERFECT CANDIDATE?

Your Job: We are hiring regional Organizers and Petition-gatherers to support the petition drive efforts statewide.

  • Organizers are responsible for building a local team of paid petition-gatherers and coordinating local petition-gathering efforts with local allies. You will be recruiting hiring, training and managing a team of paid activists who are committed to putting this initiative on the ballot. This is a contractual, salaried position that requires a time commitment of at least 40 hours per week. Organizers must have reliable transportation.

  • Petition-Gatherers are expected to work a minimum of three, 4-hour shifts per week collecting petitions for the campaign. Flexible hours are available and full-time workers can earn over $2000, contractually, per month.

Your Impact: These aren’t easy jobs, but they are important ones, that will improve the quality of life for working people who don’t have – or are losing – access to paid sick time. This campaign not only helps hard working people but also promotes a healthy, stable work environment for Michigan businesses and consumers.
