OPERATIONS DIRECTOR 

FOR THE OAKLAND COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY
 
BACKGROUND
The Oakland County Democratic Party (OCDP) is Michigan’s premier Democratic Party organization; committed to electing Democrats to office as well as advancing the vision, values and issues of the Democratic Party at the national, state and local level through both short and long term capacity building.
 
The OCDP is currently searching for a Director of Operations to lead and support the day-to-day priorities and projects of the Party in Oakland County. 
 
The ideal candidate will have a sincere interest in doing and be able to demonstrate their experience and skills in many of the following areas outlined below.
 
SKILLS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE DESIRED
 
Fundraising – Activities include:  Donor research, developing fundraising plans, call-time, event planning/implementation, direct mail and membership cultivation, overseeing volunteer and paid fundraising projects and making direct asks of large and small amounts.
 
External Communications – Activities include:  Building and maintaining relationships and with media contacts; drafting and designing direct mail, press materials, LTE’s and other written communication, for print, social media, website and e-mail blasts; overseeing and implementing media tactics and events; develop earned media plans; ability to interface with and/or learn web design/maintenance, video production and social media outlets.
 
Working for and/or with Elected Officials and other Decision-Makers – Activities include:  Elected Official staffing and service providing; as well as working with key allies and constituency leaders; playing a leading and supporting role in Coordinated Campaign activities in Oakland County.
 
Campaign Management and Support – Activities include: Crafting voter contact lists and use of the VAN, campaign planning and management, training and/or working with others on campaign skills and strategies.
 
Internal Communication and Project Management – Activities include:  Working with Boards, maintaining consistent internal communication systems and developing clear, transparent project plans and getting internal organizational buy-in for moving projects forward.
 
Volunteer Recruitment, Coordination and Retention – Activities include:  Base/Community Organizing, team-building, developing and implementing trainings, recruiting and supervising interns and appropriate planning and tracking to ensure volunteers are valued, utilized and succeed.
 
Contact Management – Activities include:  Weekly use of NGP, VAN and various other databases and data that at times need to be cleaned up and optimized; serve as traffic cop on contact management.
 
Financial/Administrative – Activities include:  Comfortable with developing and following administrative systems such as filing, use of office technologies; work with Chair, Treasurer and Bookkeeper to follow and maintain systems, budget and other financial protocol.

The OCDP Director of Operations has always been the spine of our organizational operations and has to be someone who can handle working in a sometimes stressful, hectic and politically charged work environment. 
 
Ideal Candidates will have:
 
A Commitment to the Democratic Party and Our Values – Our Director is expected to have demonstrated a commitment to Democratic values and/or the Democratic Party through volunteering for candidates, issue-based campaigns or other projects.  We expect the Director to believe in and live Democratic values.  The Director needs to be able to prioritize promoting a welcome, open and affirming environment for diverse people from all backgrounds.  The Director must be a leader at promoting respect and communication. 
 
A Strong, Reliable Work Ethic – The person who is selected for this position must have a “fill-the-void,” attitude and be willing to work long and irregular hours at times.
 
A Desire for Personal Development and Self Improvement – The Director must be thick skinned, welcome critiques, feedback and a yearly evaluation.  The Director must also be willing to receive and use training to support their personal development as needed.

COMPENSATION
This is a fulltime salaried position with benefits and will be expected to work out of our Southfield office.  The position is an organized, union represented position.  This is not an “election cycle” position and we are seeking a person who will make a minimum of a one year and ideally a three year commitment.
