Karen McDonald

Karen McDonald is an experienced litigator and advocate for families and children who will bring nearly 20 years of professional experience to the bench.

Her education includes a B.A. in English from Alma College and J.D. from Wayne State University where she graduated cum laude and was a law review editor. Her career began as a high school English teacher but she quickly realized her real passion lay in the law.  Herr law career began as a research attorney for the Court of Appeals. In 1999 she joined the Oakland County Prosecutor’s office where she prosecuted felony matters, child sexual assault cases and juvenile matters. She attained a 100 percent jury trial conviction rate.

After a short stint at Bodman LLP as a general commercial litigation associate in 2004, she began a career as a family law attorney at Jaffe where she remains as an equity partner. She has focused her practice on family law, but has also handled general civil matters and the occasional criminal matter.

Judge Leo Bowman has a reputation for being fair, with over twenty-three (23) years in the courtroom, while also being active in the community.  His work in creating the “Fast Track” domestic violence prevention program, as well as the Drug Awareness Foundation, lead him to being awarded the Oakland Community College’s inaugural, “Spirit of the Community Award.”  Judge Bowman is a firm believer that the law applies to everyone.

 As an investigator for child and adult protective services, combined with over twenty (20) years of judicial experience, Judge Denise Langford-Morris has always put following the law and protecting families first.  She has put murders, rapists and other violent offenders behind bars while preserving her integrity, independence and compassion.  Judge Langford-Morris is a state bar of Michigan, “Champion of Justice” awardee.

 Judge Phyllis McMillen is a respected legal mind with over seventeen (17) years of experience as a Judge, who is strong, skilled and effective.  The programs she has developed have been proven to reduce crime and save taxpayer dollars.  This and her reputation as a fair and independent jurist are just a few reasons that Judge McMillen was given the coveted, “Judicial Champion Award.”  Judge McMillian is smart on crime.
