Stephanie Chang is the Michigan State Senator for District 1 (Detroit and Downriver) and the Senate Minority Floor Leader. She has been a leader on immigrants' rights, criminal justice reform, issues affecting women and girls, environmental justice and much more. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was one of Michigan's most outspoken leaders to combat anti AAPI hate incidents and passed a resolution condemning hate crimes. She has built a strong track record as one of the hardest working legislators in Michigan who has passed numerous bipartisan bills while also being a strong voice for social, economic, environmental and racial justice. She is a social worker and community organizer at heart and has programs like a fellowship program for high school girls and a community baby shower for low-income pregnant women. Stephanie was the first Asian American woman elected to the Michigan legislature and the first woman senator to give birth while serving in the Michigan Senate.
