2014 MDP Jefferson-Jackson Dinner A 'Rousing Success'

DETROIT - Tonight Michigan Democratic Party officials lauded the success of their annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. This year's dinner featured President Bill Clinton at the newly-renovated Cobo Center in downtown Detroit. Throughout the evening, attendees heard from Democratic leaders like Gary Peters,Mark Schauer, Carl Levin, Debbie Stabenow, John Conyers, Lisa Brown, and Mike Duggan.

"Tonight was a great night and a rousing success for our party, as thousands of great Democrats celebrated our shared values and a new Democratic Party in Detroit," said Lon Johnson, Michigan Democratic Party Chair. "I'm looking forward to welcoming thousands of Democratic activists back to Detroit in six months to celebrate Democratic victories up and down the ticket. We have the candidates, the issues and the plan to win - now we're going to pull together and work towards victory in November."

Tonight's dinner raised over $500,000 for the Michigan Democratic Party, all of which is supporting MDP efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ticket in November. It also featured the following awardees:

  • Young Democrat of the Year: Abigail Miner
  • Volunteer of the Year: Rosendo Rocha
  • Neil Staebler Award: Nancy Katz
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Award: Judge Damon J. Keith​

The dinner featured ticket sales over 2,000, the highest in Jefferson-Jackson history for the Michigan Democratic Party.
