Your Year to Run for Precinct Delegate 

Filing Deadline  4 PM,  Tuesday, May 13th

Elected Precinct Delegates are a sign of strength of the Democratic Party. OCDP goal: increase Precinct Delegates in 2008!

To become a precinct delegate, complete the downloadable Precinct Delegate Affidavit of Identity (your signature notarized either by the Clerk’s office or at a bank) and submit the affidavit either to your local city or township clerk or to the Oakland County Clerk’s office before May 13 at 4 PMPrecinct Delegates can and should take responsibility to help organize their precinct, however Precinct Captains specifically have this responsibility, and Precinct Captains do not have special voting rights

Forms are also available at your local clerk’s office or the Oakland County Clerk’s office at 1200 N. Telegraph, Pontiac

Michigan Policy Summit tomorrow in Lansing

The May 10 annual gathering of Michigan’s progressive community brings labor, environment, social justice and other groups together. The 2008 summit will provide forums on key issues like health care, 21st century energy, education, as well as movement building activities for individuals and organizations. There will be lots of opportunities for leaders to network and share ideas and best practices. 

Keynote speakers are political activist and author Jim Hightower and host of Democracy Now!, Amy Goodman.  Other speakers include advocates, policy experts, elected officials, and other members of the state’s progressive community.

The Michigan Policy Summit takes place Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing. Registration is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Register today at: www.mipolicysummit.org

Come March with OCDP On The Road 2008 & the Birmingham-Bloomfield Dems Club in the

 Celebrate Birmingham Parade

MAY 18 in downtown Birmingham

You are invited to march with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Dems Club and Oakland County Democratic Party in the “City of Birmingham 75th Anniversary Celebration” parade.  Thousands of people come to watch the parade.  This is an opportunity for us to join businesses, organizations, individuals, schools and groups in saying “thank you” to the Birmingham community for their continued support, and to let them see we are there for all.

The parade travels north on old Woodward from Brown, turns west on Maple, and goes south on Bates ending at Townsend (Shain Park).

 Date:  Sunday, May 18.

Check-in Place:  The check-in area will be on South Old Woodward, just south of Brown.  Look for Position #46.  Our parade manager will check us in.

 Time:  Check in starts at 11:15 AM.  Please Do Not Arrive any later than 12:15.  The parade starts at 1 PM.

Presentation:  We are a marching unit which will be following the OCDP banner.  We’ll be handing out candy.  To do that, you must go to the sides and hand it to individuals.  Throwing items is not permitted for safety reasons.  (We may also have balloons, depending on funding)  

 Dress:  Please wear long pants; khaki’s preferred.  We’ll have our newly designed Oakland County Democratic Party navy t-shirts for you to wear on top.  Wear layers to use under the shirts if it’s cool. Comfortable shoes.

This is a rain or shine parade.  In case of rain, bring a raincoat and/or umbrella.

 OCDP On the Road is a team of volunteers, all members of the Oakland County Democratic Party, who join together with Democratic campaigns and local Democratic Clubs to support local, county-wide, State, US House, US Senate and the Presidential campaigns.  Individuals choose their times, locations, and assignments.  The 2008 events range from holiday parades and fireworks events and town and city summer and fall festivals of various types.  It includes large venues like the Woodward Dream Cruise and Arts, Beats and Eats  Most events are on the weekends.  It’s a great way for YOU to make a difference in this exciting election year!  You can sign up for OCDP On The Road online at www.ocdp.org
